    Dear Helpers,
After having reinstalled XP and with it all codecs,
following precisely Praetor`s instructions I encounter a fresh problem:
Certain flics would give an error message at all players. The message would be :"[such or such player] has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Having checked the Flics (which were`nt ripped by me) with AVIcodec and Gspot both apps claim they are renderable/playble and that they all have something in common: being Xvid.
Having recieved the above results, I have tried reinstalling Xvid seperately and independently but the results repeated themselves. I have prepared detailed screenshots but the posting form contains no upload link that I can see.
    Thank you in advance

I post again to apologise for the unnecessary bother and to report That the problem was solved and that the culprit was some contradiction with the ffdshow filter or perhaps a corruption within it.
