I have an AVI file with subtitles and I started to burn it on Disc in Nero 9. After I got through setting up the menu's and all I started the burn and watched the preview window to see if the subtitles would come up. They didn't so I aborted. Was it just because it was the preview video. Would they have actually been on there had I continued the burn?

Are you are trying to make a DVD video compilation with Nero Vision? I don't know about Nero 9, but the previous versions did not support subtitles.
You can use DVD Flick instead. It is free and does an awesome job.

Yes I was trying to make a DVD video compilation with Nero. I have used DVD Flick before, but it started giving me problems so I uninstalled, but was never able to totally re-install again, for some reason.

I've actually had the same problem with a couple of other authoring programs that I was using. For example, Ulead DVD Movie Factory started acting up, so I uninstalled, then re-installed, but was also never able to get it fully installed again.

The one reason I like Nero and liked Ulead was because of the the customization they allowed with their menu's. See I like to create custom menu's with my own background and music.

So this whole thing about not being able to re-install is really weird. I was thinking that maybe because I had to do a couple of recovery's with my backup software, where I completely replaced windows with a backup copy, might have had something to do with it.

In other words I'm thinking that maybe a key file or dll related to video has been missing thereby causing me problems with the re-install of some video-related programs. But then if I go with that theory, how come I was able to get Nero installed and working?

Problem solved! I should have tried to work this out myself before I bothered you guys, though I still wouldn't mind an explanation of this. What happened was, when I first posted about not seeing my subtitles in the Nero preview window I was attempting to burn a DVD from an AVI that I had ripped with the subtitles from the original DVD that I bought.

Normally however, I didn't do it that way. Normally I would rip a movie with no subtitles to my hard drive then add the subtitles using AVI ReComp. Every time I did that, even with Nero, I never had any problems.

But for some reason, Nero would not burn the subtitles from the other AVI that I ripped, the ones that came directly from the DVD. Very weird, though I'm sure there's an explanation.

Anyway always a big thanks to you guys for coming to my rescue. You all are great!
