hi guys, having a little problem and wondering if anyone can help.

i have a 500GB hard drive (OS is on this one), and a 300GB HD which i use as a storage drive, today i decided to move some garbage onto the storage drive but was informed by the little transfer manager thing that it was gonna take around a day to move the 30GB, upon inspection of the transfer speed i found it was hanging at around 1.6 mb/s. i did the usual check for virus/spyware etc but couldnt find anything, my master HD gets Defragged once a week and i have just now started a defrag on the storage drive just incase.

i was playing around just to see some other transfer speeds and it seams like copying files from the storage to the master HD works fine (around 64mb/s) as does copying from a disc to both drives, i only get the slowdown when i try and copy from the master hard drive to the storage drive. i would assume writing to the storage drive is the problem but writing to the storage drive from a disc is as fast as can be expected.

oh and this only started today, previously files moved from the master to the storage at around 60mb/s

quick edit, just tried moving a file between folders (copy/paste) on the master hard drive but the transfer rate only climbed to around 3mb/s, defrag was running at the time but still that seams a bit slow, so it looks like reading from my master hard drive is the problem. any ideas?
