I am have a problem with my VHS/DVD recorder. I have a set of Audion Video cables and a S Video cable ran out of the recorder and in to the TV. When I power up the reorder it goes to the menu screen for about 2 seconds then cuts off. So, then I press the power button again and there is no Video like the cables are not hooked up or something. I am able to change the channels using the display on the front of the recorder. But, there is still no Video coming from the recorder to the TV. If anyone knows what might be causing this please LMK.
A few ideas... 1: Some combos only output S-video and component video signals during DVD playback. Try playing a DVD and see if the picture shows up. I have a combo that will cut to a blank screen (but with sound) when I try to play a VHS tape, or watch cable through the S-video and component video output. You may have to also attach a normal composite (yellow) video cable for cable/tape watching. 2: If the unit's powering itself off immediately, it could have a power supply-related problem. I just posted in a thread about that the other day, but I'm having trouble finding the link?? Search for "interface error" and Maeby you'll find it. It has a lot of really good information, several people were really making ground on fixing combos with power problems. Good luck! Let us know if the first solution works.
I tried your first idea. When I try playing a DVD or VHS its says its playing on the display. But, no Audio or Video is going to the TV.
I tested the DVD recorder again this morning. There is still no Video but I am now getting Audio through the speakers. I have hooked it up to 2 different TVs and have the same problem on both. If anyone knows what the problem is please let me know.
I just purchased a Magnavox DV220MW9 DVD/CD Player with Video Cassette Recorder. I have it hooked to an old tv. There is no tuner in the unit and no place to put a coxial cable. Is there any way to hook this up to the cable so that I can record?
You would need to run the cable channel on another device, and then use the RCA-style (yellow/white/red) line output on that device to connect to the line input on your recorder; using this setup you would have to manually tune the channel on the other device. Many TVs feature audio and video outputs, meaning that what you watch on the screen is sent out via composite RCA connectors. If your TV doesn't have this, you could use an old VCR, even if the tape deck doesn't work, as long as the tuner works, and as long as the VCR has composite RCA output connectors and a tuner line input. If neither of these solutions work you will have to find a stand-alone tuner with composite outputs.
Out of curiosity couldn't this be done by getting a tv tuner card and simply capturing the output/signal once it hits the pc?
