Subtitle not showing on VLC but shows on DVD players

Hi,

I have some DVD discs that play the Subtitles well on DVD players but the Subtitles do not show on the media players (e.g VLC) in the computer even when selected.

I can see that the files in the DVD are of *.vob, *.ifo and *.bup extensions. Very sorry if this makes no sense as I'm not a tech person.

Have you tried it on Windows Media Player? I personally hate using WMP for DVD playback, but I know you can use it.

Additionally, you can try seeing if there are programs specifically designed for DVD playback.

 

VLC is known for having troubles with subtitles (odd, I know). My favorite media player is the KMPlayer.

Does a great job with everything I play, including HD mkv. Extremely customizable. Does wonders with subtitles, adjusting position, size, and everything else you can think of.

Careful, though, confusingly, there are two media players called KMPlayer. Be sure to get the right one.

(1) I've loaded KMPlayer but I have not managed to load any DVDs as the error message "Can't Make GraphBuilder" pops up whenever I try to read files.

(2) I have problems with Windows Media Player that failed to play file too

(3) I read somewhere that it might be due to QVOD player that I had earlier. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled WMP and KMP but both still do not work.

What should I do further ?
Or, would someone know if there's other solutions ?

I have found that a freeware program clled GOM player dos a great job of playing dvd's

 

in addition my previous post GOM player also supports subtitles and closed captions

 

another dvd player that works very well is Smplayer at the website

http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ let it install from the web it also supports subtitles and closed captions plus is very easy to coustmise

 

don't people ever look at the menus for the programs they install?

vlc.. start the player then open the dvd.. on the top..

video>subtitles

it will list the available subs track and depending on whether the disk region matches your dvd drive region the subs may be disabled by default.

Under preferences you can set subs position, colour and font.
