My downloaded copy of DVD Shrink always tells me when I am trying to back up my film collection, that the folm DVD is 'Copywrite protected' andI can't proceed further. DVD decrypter seems to get over this hurdle. Any suggestions (polite please)

Hi George, If this is your 1st attempt with Shrink, you can try this trick. Play the original DVD with your software player(WinDVD-PowerDVD)for a few seconds. Then stop the movie and open Shrink and click open disc. Shrink sometimes needs a little jump-start to get going. This usually helps.

Hi you two. :)

george22, this "bug" was introduced with the ability to burn with Nero (from DVD Shrink).

If what Jerry746 suggested does not work you could try the following:

- Disable burning with Nero in DVD Shrink "Edit >> Preferences >> File I/O" menu.
- Use a "region-free" program like AnyDVD, RegionFree (both commercial) or DVD43 (free). ;)

Hello All, I tried starting the DVD in poewrDVd before using Shrink and als tried disabling 'burn with Nero' as suggested. Both of these methods seem to do the trick individually. So many thanks.
I use this group as my 'casual informative' reading.

another solution is to rip it to hd using DVD Decrypter and then use DVD Shrink to "shrink" it.

The latest version of DVD Shrink was supposed to have a fix for stalling movie backups. I notice this still doesn't work as I will backup a movie and play it and you will have pauses in the movie sometimes. I only tried once again and went to my standard way which is to always use DVDDecrypter to rip the movie and DVD Shrink to compress. I then always run a deep analysis in Shrink even though it takes considerable amount of time. I love DVDShrink but I have never had any movie pauses when I use DVDDecrypt to rip and DVDShrink then to compress. When using standard analysis and not deep analysis DVDShrink only samples and will analyze 1% of the frames. With deep analysis 100% of the frames are analyzed and it makes a very big difference in the playback of the movie. As far as quality it is supposed to also be much better but I have never noticed that. But, when just using DVDShrink to decrypt and not using deep analyze I definitely will get backups with pauses in them. Using DVDDecrypt first, then Shrink, never a problem.

G'day there guys! I have been having the same problems as dennis with the movie pausing at certain sections of the movie. I never had a problem with version 3.0 beta 5 at all. I have burnt one movie so far with 3.1.6 but not yet watched it. I have also downloaded the latest 3.1.7 version but yet to try. If I get pausing anymore I will either use a different ripper e.g dvddecrypter or revert back to version 3.0 beta 5. Will keep u posted as to how I go.
