What media do I need to copy a movie over 2hours/4.7G. Should I purchase DL DVD's or will the non layered ones be ok?

dvd rebuilder will give the best results even with high compression and still good picture quality (the project to be backed up to a single layer dvd-5 disc). If no compression is required (a 1:1 recording) then a dual layer disc (dvd-9, the +R variety) is required (maximum quality, ie an identical copy of the origional)

DVD Rebuilder always gets my vote. On my Quad Core Q6600 main movie mode takes 45mins to encode, a full disc episodic takes an hour.

A good example of what Rebuilder can achieve - just watched a 4hour disc of 'The Tudors' done by Rebuilder, outstanding quality (i only use single layer discs btw)
