No right click options menu for desktop

    I have a ASUS Notebook G50VT series laptop, problem, on my account i can right click on the desktop and i don't get the menu choice that says: New Folder,View, Sort by. ect., How can i get this option back? Plus the same for when i right click on an icon. No option for Open and what-not. How do i get all this back? On my gf's account it's fine and has the options.
    Please help.
