Any tv tuner card will work, even a 40.00 dollar one. Just make sure it has a coaxial cable for tv input, if your ps2 uses the rca video plugs make sure it has that input on the card. To use the ps2 on your computer monitor, just setup the tuner software to AV instead of tuner.

If you want to use your computer as a TIVO-like computer, then you need a tuner card with built-in hardware encoders. You can find the hauppgauge pvr-150 on the internet for 50.00. These tuner cards will record in the background while you use the computer for other things.

The pvr150 is standard quality tv, the HD tuner cards (with hardware encoders) are in the 100.00 range.

The cheaper tuner cards use software encoders, when they are recording tv, they will use 90 percent of your cpu, the hardware encoders tuner cards use less than 5 percent when recording.

I have a msi tvanyware tuner card that cost me 40.00, it has the coaxial and rca plug. I only use it to watch tv, for recording it will slow down the computer too much.
I also have 3 pvr150 installed in one of my computers, I can record 3 shows at one time while playing mp3's with no problems.

coaxial is the standard cable tv wire. The same as you screw into the back of a regular tv.

The RCA plug are similar to what you find on a dvd player and some tv's. The RCA plugs have 3 colors yellow for video red for right audio and white for left audio. RCA plugs are standard on almost all modern video equipment tv's / game players / dvd's / vcr's .

The pvr 150 tuner card is the one I recommend, they are very reliable and has a good quality tv tuner, the 3 I have in my computer have been running nonstop 24/7 for almost 3 years with no problems (using the sagetv software, never tried the software that came with the card). these cards get the audio straight from the coaxial cable (the cheaper cards require you to use the audio card input). The reason these cards don't slow down your computer is because the hardware mpeg encoders do all the encoding, the only thing the cpu has to do is write to the hard drive which is no sweat even for a celeron cpu. I can be recording 3 tv shows in the background and be playing need for speed most wanted and there won't be any slowdown on my computer.
