I have office 2007 and for some reason whenever I try to open an older word document by double clicking it it always says that it is an invalid Win32 application. However when I open word first then use the open option when in word it will open them just fine. I have made sure that .doc is associated with microsoft word in program defaults.

Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

Just a side note when trying to open an older document of any other application, i.e. excel and powerpoint, it will open it just fine.

Check and see if .doc files are associated with Word 2007
