Have you tried to reload the driver from the motherboard cd?
Put the cd into your ODD and right click on the drives icon and select open. There you will see various folders, there should be one named Drivers..go ahead and open it, then you should see one named Audio. Open the folder and you should see an >EXE file. Install and make that all important restart and test for sound.

It didn't come with an installation cd? So either go back to the person who installed the motherboard for you and get it back..or.. visit the makers website of that motherboard and download the driver (usually free).
Failing all the above..post the make and model of your board and perhaps we can find it for you. If you do not have the box it came in either, you could use this freeware app called Everest home edition. It will tell you all sorts of info about your system...including the mobo details.

    Cheers.
