I am not sure if this is the same Divx, but a couple of years ago, Circuit City and a couple other companies tried to push Divx. It bombed out and now my friend is stuck with a bunch of them.

Is there a program that would convert them to a playable format on a DVD player/Recorder?

I know there is a Divx viewer which lets you see movies on the internet, but this is NOT the Divx I am writing about.

of course there are programs to convert divx/xvid to playable formats on dvd players these programs are called mpeg encoders, they can convert avi(divx/xvid) formats to vcd(mpeg-1), svcd(mpeg-2) and even dvd format(which all dvdplayers will recognise and play)
