Hi I am having problems with my laptop crashing and running slow. I have attached my Hijack Log and I would be very grateful if my knight in Shining Armour could have a look at it and advise me on what to do. Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge.

I suggest running these two apps. Both are payware but have trial periods.

    Trojan remover http://www.simplysup.com/

    Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Lastly, get ccleaner and do a reg clean. Then select the tools icon then the startup tab and deselect the programs you don't need which slow you down at bootup. Only deselect the programs you are familiar with but the following may help...

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CameraFixer] C:\WINDOWS\CameraFixer.exe

    And anything Adobe!

Defrag your HDD and make a full restart....hows it going now?

    Cheers.

    Hi Dee, [IMG]

It’s been a while, hope things are going well on the “Emerald Isle”.

If you did what onya said, that’s good. Now let’s dig a little deeper and see what happens.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. DO NOT use yet.

Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Free

    • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.)
    • Under the "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences... button.
    • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
    • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    o Close browsers before scanning.
    o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

    • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
Do not run a scan just yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

    • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

    • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

    Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:

    • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
    • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
    • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntiSpyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.

    • Click Close to exit the program.

Uninstall some programs (if they remain after running SAS)

Click on start >>control panel>>add remove programs
click on the following programs and click on remove

    BearShare
    BearShare Accelerator
    BearShare MediaBar

    Fix entries using HiJackThis

    Launch HiJackThis
Click the Do a system scan only button
Put a check next to the entries listed below (if they still remain)

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://search.bearshare.com/sidebar.html?src=ssb

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.bearshare.com/ie/

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] \"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe\" -osboot

    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

Click the Fix checked button and close HiJackThis

    Reboot to Normal Mode

Post a fresh HJT Log and the SAS Log and we’ll take it from there…

    Hey Dee,

Your HJT Log looks real good. Here are 3 lines to check and Fix with HJT. The first two don’t need to be running in the background and the 3rd is a dead link..

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" –atboottime

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

    O4 - Global Startup: Digimax Viewer 2.1.lnk = ?

Clean up your HD and Defrag. That should help speed you up some…

Goto >> Start >> My Computer, then right click on your main drive icon ( C: ) and select properties. Click the box that says “Disk Cleanup” then OK when it finishes.

Now click on the “Tools” tab and click the box that says “Defragment Now”

Get rid of AVG 8 it slows you down. Install Avira Antivir HERE! it is a much better AntiVirus program. If you can’t live with the Nag screens when it updates I’ll tell you how to get rid of them.. [IMG]

Let me know how it’s doing and how it’s performing…

    Hi me texan baron,
Sorry to be bothering you today, but I am having an absolute nightmare with this laptop today. it is continuously freezing. even though I go into task manager to end procesess or shut down, its just not moving. The only way is to disconnect power and go back in. This is my third attempt to get in, so I will post a hijack anyway for you to look at, and if all looks ok there you might let me benefit from your amazing knowledge on the subject.

    Your friend

    dede36,

Hey Dee, contrary to public opinion, I can’t walk on water… [IMG]

Your HJT Log is as clean as an Old Maids Parlor!

There are so many things that could cause the problem……

Let’s step thru a few checks:
    1. goto start > my computer > right click the drive C icon > properties then divide the free space by the drive capacity and see if you have less than 20 percent of free space and let me know.

    2. Start your computer in the Safe Mode.
If you can start and run ok in safe mode, then the problem may be either a driver or some software that is loading at startup.

If it boots and works ok in Safe Mode, then goto Start > Run > type: msconfig in the box and click OK. Then click the Startup tab uncheck all the startup items (make a list of what you uncheck, unless All are checked, then you don't need a list. lol)

    Reboot to normal mode..

If all is working OK then go back to msconfig and put things back one by one and reboot each time until you find the culprit.

I know, it’s a long difficult process but maybe you can enlist the help of some of the “Wee ones”…: )

Let me know what you come up with….

I followed your first instruction and my free space is 4,565,512,192 bytes - 4.25gb

Drive Capacity is 19,510,329,344 bytes - 18.1 gb.

I will have a go now at the rest of your suggestions.

Kind Regards From the Emerald Isle

Whoa!!!! Dee, that can’t be right! Your operating system and a couple of applications will take up more than 18.1 Gb. Check that again.. If you only have 4.25Gb Free space, that may be the problem…..

Check the Capacity and free space again to see if you made a mistake and let me know..

I've been thinking about it, Dee. How many Drives do you show in My Computer?

I know it's a laptop with one drive but, maybe it's partitioned into several.

Try to give me a Full account of your listed drives and the size and free space on each of them...

    Dee,
    I am so confused. [IMG]

I have not seen an 18.1 GB hard drive since the 70’s…. That’s got to be wrong.. : (

Either it’s a 181. GB or you only have 1 small partition with a lot of wasted space.
This could be your problem. At this point in time I am at a loss because it’s impossible for me to get my hands on it and see for sure what’s happening….

Do you still have any paperwork or a box that says what size HD it came with??
