I have just installed vista ultra on a computer. It has a cd burner and a dvd burner. I can't get either one to read or burn a cd. It burns DVD's okay. When i put a cd in the dvd burner ,it says no media. The cd burner does not even show up on the computer menu. Even tried just a cd rom and it doesn't show up.?? What i'm i doing wrong??

What operating system where you running before? Vista is probably trying to use a generic driver, while you need the specific driver for that device. The manufacturers web site should have an available vista driver.

It was xp pro. I never heard of having to install a driver for a cd, or dvd burner. I thought they were all plug and play. But i will try the manufacture's site site to see if they have drivers for these burners. The dvd burner reads and burns dvd but nothing with cd's. It is a nec 2510a with the newest fireware. and the cd burner is a pacific digital. the cd rom i tried was a aopen. Non work. But they all work in my other xp pro machine
