There are many programs that allow you to convert DivX/XviDs to regular DVDs. Search for tutorials for the program you have and you will likely find your problem or try a different program.

If you intend to convert to regular DVDs often, I strongly suggest that instead, you buy a cheap DVD player that will play the DivX/XviD files without conversion. That way, you can burn much more DivX video per DATA DVD and it is far faster. I burn a DATA DVD with about 11 hours of reasonable quality video in about 8 minutes.

Look for a newer DVD player that will play DivX as they can be very cheap (less than $50). While your at it, try to get one that has USB too. This can be very handy to watch your downloaded videos without converting and without burning to DVDs. I have had many of these players but my current favorite is a Pioneer.

However, I have also had very good experience with the lowest price "cheapie" DivX/Mpeg4 players.
