Chkdsk way to slow reading hdd

    My drive has been reading really slow. I couldn't find the DMA mode option and I tried a couple of other things but still the same result. I decided to use the chkdsk to see if that would slove the problem but its been at stage 4 since 6:00pm yesterday and is only at 36 precent that not right is it? I wanted to just cancel but I was wondering would it effect my drive.

    won't effect drive. check in ide ata/atapi controllers for dma in device manager.
