problem starting up after hibernate/resume

Hi, for lack of a better way to say this events are as follows:
-laptop runs out of power while I'm distracted and goes into hibernation
-I plug in the power, resume, finish the project and shut down
-when I go to start up my laptop again it hangs at the screen right after you enter your password (the one that says "welcome..." iirc) for a very long time before continuing to load windows.

Normally that "welcome" screen is only displayed for a few secs but now it sits there for several minutes since I last hibernated/resumed. Does anyone know what has gone wrong?
