    Hi,

mcshield.exe drives me crazy. It takes 99%-100% of CPU so my laptop is very very slow in everything!! And the cooler is running like hell.

Laptop is an old Compaq Windows XP and Mcshield has been there from the beginning (from -02 I guess).

I can't even remove it, I have probably secured it on administrator level but haven't remembered the password for years.

What can I do? Please, any help is welcome! Kids have been using it for surfing etc. and now it's tooo slow.

    Thanks,
    Hartzu

To remove McAfee you need their removal tool.

    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

Grab yourself the free version of AVG or Antivir. There's also other suggestions here at Afterdawn, via the Downloads tab and then desktop security..

You can do way better than *shudders* McAfee...

To find the reason why macafee is slowing you down, just type mcshield into google. There's a bucket load of info there for you. If you decide to remove that program, you'll need to do a reg clean after, and a defragg wouldn't hurt either. Make a restart and install whatever security app that you choose.

    Cheers.
