Corrupted DVD

I have on my hard disk a movie I downloaded in DVD format (i.e. it consists of VOB, BUP and IFO files).
I wanted to convert the said DVD into avi with AutoGK, however, when I pressed on the "Input File" (in AutoGK) and selected any of the VOB files of the said movie, there appeared the message: "No video streams were found".
It seems to me, therefore, that there is some defect in that DVD, or that it's real format isn't DVD. I should add that if I change the extention of any of the VOB files into AVI, I can play it, but when I am tried to check with AVIcodec what's the format of such AVI, AVIcodec showes nothing.
Is there a way to fix the said DVD?

If you select 'VTS_01_0.IFO' instead of the VOB files - does it makes a difference.

Well,I have tried to select each and every IFO file, however I allways got the message : "Error parsing IFO file".

If loading it into 'DVD Shrink' gives an error, try running the files through 'FixVTS'

 

Sounds like you got a bad download.

Whenever I've tried to open one of the VOB files of that DVD with DVD Shrink 3.2 - whether by draging the VOB file into DVD Shrink or from the "Open Files" menu of DVD Shrink - there appeared the following message:

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid filname"

Then, whenever I have tried to open any such VOB file with "Ready to process VTS window" of FixVTS - or by draging the VOB file into the said window - nothing happened.

Hence, I guess I shall have to give up the idea of fixing that DVD, and simply change the extention of each of the VOB files into "AVI" or "mpeg", unless you think it would be preferable to convert those VOB files to some sort of video with some program (which you can recommend).

 

What is the file name?
Do you have an IFO file to go with that VOB?

This is what DVD Shrink wants to see:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB

In the folder of that movie I have a sub-folder whch consists of 18 files as follows :-

one VIDEO_TS.BUP file + 5 VTS_BUP files numbered 01 - 05
one VIDEO_TS.IFO file + 5 VTS_IFO files numbered 01 - 05
one VIDEO_TS.VOB file + 5 VTS_VOB files numbered 01 - 05

I opened DVD Shrink, clicked on the "Open Files" menu, found the above mentioned sub folder>VIDEO_TS and clicked OK.

There appeared the message I have mentioned, namely :

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid filname"

I should add that all the 5 numbered VOB files are playable.

Can you change the 'View' to 'Details' and repost?

 

You can't change the VOB's extensions to AVI and expect then to now be AVIs.

You say the VOBs are playable. If you have Nero Vision (Express) from version 3 and up you could add the VOBs, merge them and with 'Smart Encoding' ticked (it shouldn't re-encode, just reauthor) it will create a playable DVD. The same can also be done in DVD Flick (no re-encode), but is a bit more complicated.

 

You never know what you're getting when you download a movie.
Just delete it and forget about it. You're lucky you didn't get a virus.
There are corrupt movies for download that were purposely created that way.

The VOB files seem to be named wrong.
I would take:
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_04_0.VOB
VTS_05_0.VOB

You could place them in a new folder and rename them:

VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB

And create a new DVD using IfoEdit.
