I currently have Intel T5500 (1.66) installed on my acer apsire 5580 laptop which is kinda slow for me since i use it as my primary machine. Is there anyway to change the processor to a faster one? 2ghz perhaps? i use my laptop for gaming and editing stuff (videos, audio, photos). Is there a laptop "exclusive" line of cpus that i can buy?

I was looking at this earlier today, I have the T5500 myself, and according to wikipedia it lists the T5xxx series as both socket P and socket M. However looking at the intel spec sheet it lists the chip as socket M. So far what I have found has been rather confusing but it looks like the main difference is the M chips run a 667 FSB while the P chips run at 800. If that really is the case than it would mean that the M socket tops out at the T5xxx while the P series starts with the T7xxx. Let me know what else you guys find.

Socket M and socket P are not compatible, and no you won't be able to use desktop CPUs (At least I don't think anything that is still made).

Here is a list I found, it lists both a P and M version of the T5500

    Looks like my T5500 is a socket M :(

might not be able to use past 3.5gig of ram because of 32bit limitations.

No, you cannot use desktop CPUs in a laptop.
