Hey, I've had so many problems with a new vista 64 machine and have gotten most ironed out, but one of my favorite apps is DVDfab platinum and I can't get it to work. The program runs well, and rediculously fast, and goes all the way to where it actually says the disc was created successfully and then a windows errors message comes up saying it was stopped. It has a bubble in the taskbar that says DEP shut it down and to click for more options. First I tried adding it as an exception in the DEP options but that did nothing. Then I looked up how to disable DEP and found the command line code "bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff" which seems to work and the DEP menu is grayed out. But when I try to use DVDfab the same thing happens. How can it tell me DEP shut down the program if I disabled it? I've tried the typical update windows, run as administrator, turn off UAC, and run in xp compatibility and nothing works. Any ideas? Ugh, vista is so annoying.

I would try and install DVD Fab again. I have two machines running Vista 64 and both use DVD Fab regularly with no problem. It might be a error in your registry too..someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can also try updating your Vista Codecs, I know that helps with people having this problem in Media Center. It might(OR might not) help you.

If that doesn't work, again, I'd try reinstalling Dvd Fab.

I just got a Vista 64 machine and when I tried to install DVDFab it also installed VSO and locked up my machine. Kept telling me I needed drivers for VSO. I went to their website and installed the program and it still would not work. Would not boot after installing. I think it was VSO that caused the problem. Did VSO install on your machine?

Yes, it is installed on my machine. I believe it is needed for DVD Fab to work.

I think what installed on my machine was 'VSO ConvertXtoDVD'. Is this the normal install for DVDFab or something extra?

    Thanks,
    Carol

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I am having the exact same problem as the orginal poster. As soon as DVD Fab begins to burn to a blank DVD, Vista says that DEP has closed DVD Fab. I have already disabled DEP via command prompt. I'm running 64 bit vista and DVD version 6.0.2.2 on an HP Laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

TravDude, I did finally get it to work but don't know if my solution will help you. What I found was that the app was set to use the default VSO burning engine and that was what was failing. I installed imgburn and Nero and tried the settings to use each of those and they both worked. It's under common settings - DVD/BluRay - Write - Burning Engine. I forget what combination of turning off DEP, UAC, Run as administrator I used when working it all out. But after I did get it all working I turned those back on and it still works fine, it was all in that VSO burning engine. Hope that helps and if it doesn't then I really don't know.

Thank You! I installed ImgBurn and that seems to have resolved the issue. I'll postback if for some reason it fails, but it looks promising!

That might be why I've never had a problem. One of the first things I install on a new system is ImgBurn, probably sets itself as default and DvdFab just doesn't override it.

Would pay to turn DEP back on now that your no longer using vso, unless you want malicious code running rampant while surfing or whatever

Actually, that leads me to another problem that I am having. I still play an older video game (NASCAR Racing 2003) and DEP automatically shuts down the game. However, I can't add NR2003 to the DEP exception list, it states "this program must be run with DEP enabled". So I have to keep turning DEP Off and On, or sometimes just leave it Off. Anyone know of a solution to force a program onto that exception list?
