Hi, new here, be kind! Ive been converting avi files to dvd using convertxtodvd, always found it quite good on quality etc. Recently though i've bought a Sony Bravia 40", brand new, HD ready etc (old tv was a 32" brick). When I play any of the dvds on the new tv they look terribe, very grainy and not sharp at all. Sound quality is still there bit picture is shite. Is there any program anyone knows of which will convert to a very high quality? Or can I change the file size to fit the whole dvd for better quality or am I doomed for having a big tv?
As far as I know, setting Bitrate to achieve file size and also 2 pass capability is slated for the future and not possible now. In my opinion, ConvertXtoDVD is the best one step converter out there and you're probably seeing artifact's a smaller screen didn't show. The quality of the avi is vital, stay away from cam, ts, scr if converting (dvd scr is fine as is tc usually). Your next step would be to an encoder like CCE Basic or MainConcept (bit pricey and can be complicated but default DVD setting work's great) but you would need an authoring program with that. Another option would be a DIVX player for your avi, you could fit more on a DVD and player's are inexpensive but you wouldn't be able to loan out those DVD's to people without a DIVX player.
mistycat All the files are dvdrips, cant watch cams etc, and that stuff about CCE and authoring is way over my head. Would winavi be any better for the conversion? Sounds like I'm stuck with what ive got! Cheers anyway.
I don't think WinAvi, I own a license to it and no longer have it installed although, to be fair, I haven't used it in quite a while. There is a slight difference in DVDRip avi quality, look into DVD-R or full size mkv or check out an avi player for watching on TV, not expensive at all. Edit: I do use MC and while the quality is a bit better, I'm impressed by how good ConvertXtoDVD is and use it regularly.
Another thought, I've never had an issue with the burn engine on ConvertXtoDVD but you can try ImgBurn (free-probably best there is) instead and burn at half the rated speed of the media, if you're not. Good media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim (made in Taiwan) or any made in Japan can help.
