letterbox movie does not fill letterbox frame

Hi,
I am using AnyDVD to decode, DVD Shrink to recode to an .iso and Nero9 or Roxio Creator Premium 10 to write.
My problem is when trying to backup my letterbox DVDs, the copies are not filling the letterbox frame. There is a space at the top and bottom of my letterbox frame.
Full screen movies can be backed up to identical and play great.
I have been searching but have not found a thread that addresses this issue. I am sure that there is a resolution on this site somewhere and I am an advanced user but I am tired of looking. Please excuse my duplicated thread as the case may be.
Any assistance will be grately appreciated.

I am using an HP Pavillion dv7t notebook with an Intel 2 duo 2.13GHz 64 bit CPU/1066 MHz FSB, 8x SuperMultiDrive, 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz, ATI Radeon 512 MB dedicated, 320 GB int HDD, 500 GB and 250 GBx2 ext HDD.

No. It does not fill in the letterbox frame like the one on //photobucket. Yours looks the way I want mine to look.

 

What's the name of some of these movies. That may help.

 

Predator, Predator vs aliens, Jump, Next, just about all letterbox format movies. I have a HD 17" WXSVGA BrightView wide screen display on my notebook.

 

For a minute I thought you had some widescreen movies that were actually 4:3 letterboxed but the movies you describe are true widescreen movies. I would need to see what you're talking about.

I will do it and post the URL. These are 16:9 or vise versa and are widescreen format.

 

Maybe it the software you're using and the way it's set up.

pardon me for jumping in,
but since you have access to the original dvd,
how does the image differ when the original is used?

Secondly, the image you provided has an aspect ratio of 4:3
Did you encode a W/S movie as non-anamorphic ? (4:3)

 

Thank you for jumping in! I am recoding a disc right [8x tops] now but will get some print screens for you to look at from a 17" panel with that aspect ratio of 4:3. I will do the same for the notebook disp[lay's aspect ratio of 16:9 and will post some images of the original to compare.

No I did not change the aspect ratio from the original intentionally but I may have. I have just upgraded AnyDVD to vs 6.5.4.3.
How do you change from the original aspect ratio?

 

I'm not that familiar with the tools you're using,
but in general it's done in the mpeg-2 encoding stage.

It seems logical that anydvd/shrink would just preserve whatever
was in the original dvd, but because I'm not familiar with them,
I can't say for sure 100%.

Do some more testing and gather the screen prints - perhaps we'll
figure it out.

Usually, if a software player puts up a 4:3 window,
it means the dvd is non-anamorphic. For example, I use Powerdvd,
and you can get the dvd information while the disk is playing.
It clearly tells you if it's encoded for 16*9 or 4*3.

What is the res of your W/S monitor?

If you go to http://s625.photobucket.com/albums/tt339/normoose/ you will see that the problem is with the discs, I believe. One of those crap in, crap out deals.

res on both displays 1024x768. I can try others but I think that I tried that already. Will let you know what I find out.

I changed my notebook screen resolution to 1280x720 and I almost fill the frame. Now to see if I can record with this res and be able to play discs on my TV! You can see the difference on http://s625.photobucket.com/albums/tt339/normoose/
