USB IR remote advice please

Hi

Im running win xp Pro , I have HDMI running from

my video card to my HD television .

The annoying thing for me is using the mouse

to navigate etc

Im looking into buying a remote , USB IR

But cant decide on what best suits me , Id hate to get one

home to find it wont work with what I need it to

I would also like to remotely control not only BR and

dvds from my PC , but also .divx files as well , and from my

laptop ( Win ME I believe )

Is this going to all depend on which software I use to

play these files ?

I use PDVD , I also use Nero showtime , Win media , VLC

to mention a few .

Im not really even sure where to begin here , can someone

please point me in the right direction and give me a schooling

on how to get this going
