    Encoders tested:
    HCEnc v0.23
    QuEnc v0.72
    TMPGEnc v2.525
    CCE SP v2.7
    Canopus Procoder v3.0
    Main Concept Reference v1.61

    Results:
    Best: CCE
Very good: HCEnc (very close to CCE)
Good: Procoder / QuEnc (too bad QuEnc is so slow)
Not so good: TMPGEnc / Mainconcept

Thankyou, a lot of work there but I think the choice of encoder's to be a lot to do with personal preference and pretty subjective. For example, I'm pretty fussy about quality and have used MC for year's, close to commercial quality with a good qualiity avi. TMPGenc was good but not as good as MC or Procoder and both TMPGenc and Procoder were incredibly slow here (all at 2 pass VBR), at least 2x or 3x (both had similar time's) that of MC, I don't mind a bit slower but they were both ridiculous; that was some time ago though. CCE setting's page won't even load here and isn't the trial limited to 3 minute's per video, not much time but I do hear it's good and also fast. That said, I think I'll give HCenC a try.
