hi; i have a sony kv-32hs510 tv. I'm trying to hook it up to my pc, so i bought a vga to componet video cable and audio cable. i get sound but no video. can this even be done? if not, what should i use? thank you neil
Hmmm, I never have considered that method, I have a laptop with s-video and have an adapter from s-video to component I have used and on my htpc I have dvi to hdmi. What kind of pc are you using is it on a video card or igp (integrated Video) sometimes when connecting to a tv you have to use a reliable and acceptable screen resolution. If you are using a Desktop pc and it has a spare pci-e slot I would reccomend the ATI 3450 its a very inexpensive video card comes in 256 & 512mb configs has dvi & hdmi works great and even supports audio out through hdmi. Hi thanks for the reply; ya it's an integrated Video on a Winfast K8M890M2MA motherboard. Is that to small, just want to make sure that's the prob before I go and buy the video card you recommended. should I be going s-video instead? This sony kv-32hs510 says it doesn't support a pc on video 7. It does have a DVI HDTV plug, but not like any other I've seen before, so I tryed the VGA to component video cable ( next best I thought)I bought a VGA DVI conversion plug but, it wouldn't plug into the TV's DVI port????? While I couldn't find a Winfast board I did find a Foxconn with the same chipset. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=18859 This chipset is Via IGP Graphics great for office work and some light gaming but you really need a video card this will actually create an overall improved experience with this board it appears to support AMD X2 Dual Core processors but has a very limiting 2gb max ram so having a dedicated video card will be a win win all around. The card I reccomend is great but don't feel like thats the only one out there I used to have the Nvidia 8500GT which also has s-video and dvi. S-video can be very versatile and gives a good signal, dvi is much improved and dhcp compliant as is hdmi the best of all connections. I have used them all personally for my laptop since I take it to different homes for viewing and sometimes the occasional seminar the s-video is more widely available even older analog tv's accept it. The choice is really personal and you should consult the user reviews at any site you choose to purchase from based on user experiences, I find this works in sorting out what fits my needs and pocket book.
Does your PC show a 2nd Monitor/display in the display settings? Is your TV on the correct channel? Video 1 Video 2, Component, S-Video etc.? Drop the PC resolution down to 800 x 600 first your tv should be able to go up to 1024 x 768 but start low and work you way up until it goes blank them back down on the resolution. I hooked up my Xbox 360 to my tv component and had to "turn it on" of the color was only black and white. If this don't help please list the steps you are doing to get this to work and maybe we can see a skipped step. Jay

Thanks again for the replys guys. i think if I'm going to buy a video card I may as well buy one with vga,s-video and dvi. ( for future uses ) To answer 01struck, yes i had it on video 6 which was the video port with the componet video jacks. I had pc at 800 x 600 I think, it was the setting all the way to the left (very big). Audio works great and at one time the screen flickered about 15 times about 2 inches high from one side to the other on the screen. i thought it was going to start up but, I unplugged it and rehooked everything up again but , this time nothing and it never happened again, but the pc monitor works great. so i'm thinking as elliot says, that it's probably the video card. I typed in Nvidia 8500GT into ebay but there seems to be a bunch of them and all a little different. will anyone do???? Again thanks for the helpful info. Hello Elliot: Thank you for your help. Just to tell you what happened. I bought a video card $39 with a vga, DVI, and s-video ports. I hooked them up, one at a time to my tv, in the video 6 componet video hook up. The sound was good but when i hooked it up using the vga and Dvi ports on the video card the TV screen was blank, even adjusting 640 x 800 etc... But when i hooked it up to the s-video port on the video card the picture came on, so i just adjusted the settings on the PC to make picture fit rite on the tv. Anyhow, I'm so pleased and I just want to thank you again for your fantastic help. Have a good summer Neil
Glad I could be of some help the price you payed was good and s-video aint bad I use that on my laptop in hotels. Now you can really HULU so check out hulu.com or crackle.com there is also a website called joost never used it though.
