No Resume function on Philips DVDR5570H for divx avi

When I start playing a video avi on a CD or DVD , then go to have a look what is currently on the TV channel , I can not go back to the video where I left watching from. The bloody thing just restart from the beginning.Does this mean the unit has no Resume ? the problem is not with VOBs dvd formats ,only with avi.

Also when I am viewing say half way watching a video ,if I then click on "disc" ,the unit looses the previous video position from where I left from. Cant resume

Also why do some avi on disc have Macro vision , when my old Sharp DVD recorder also had Macro vision ,but did not distort videos on disc just because they where originally on VHS.

Also can anyone tell me if what the video format will be for the recorded TV shows on the hard drive , I know its mpeg II ,but does it
end in avi file extension or .mpg ?
