    Ok -
Was wondering if anyone can recommend what version of Nero is good? I just want to be able to decode and burn DVD's.

I have Nero 7 Ultra, which I got from a buddy but lately it freezes up and is not responding. Just wondering if there is a more trust-worthy version I should get? Please advise.

sorry folks - I just tried a different DVD+RW and now it works fine!

If the DVD+RW is a lemon disc, will it cause Nero to freeze up like that? Very weird...

For burning DVDs I find imageburn a far better bet than Nero in fact I have removed nero from my system completely

Yes we have all heard how much better ImgBurn is than Nero, but if you'll note the OP's statement.
It seems he needs more than just a burning app.

Can ImgBurn author DVDs, Recode DVDs, play DVDs, Quality Check DVDs? Does ImgBurn have a WAVE editor, can it create photo slideshows? The list goes on and on.

As a Nero 7 Ultra user the suggestion that ImgBurn can replace it is ludicrous.

imgburn.. avidemux and dvd-flick can tho.. without the expense and bloat.. and usually way faster too.

There are free applications which will do everything and a lot more than nero.. without needing 3 gigs of drive space to install them and without all the bugs.

The ONLY thing I have found nero worthwhile for (nero 8 at that) is hd capture from certain camcorders.. which it does very well.

I don't have any M$ software on my home systems at all.. so nero doesn't even figure in my plans.. far better foss tools are available..
