Hi All, Firstly, I've searched the forums, google and looked at the guides and havent been able to find this issue anywhere.

I have made a DVD-R of AVI files to free up space on my hard drive. This disc and all its files works fine. I am now trying to copy said DVD-R disc, however after a making the copy with Nero, and it completing successfully (through creating an image file), 8 of the 9 avi files do not play. (Error message comes up on WMP of missing codecs, although I have the needed codecs (such as FFD show) and don't have a problem playing any other avi files).

They dont load up on the dvd player (which can play divx/xvid avi files which these are) either (except for one which does work). It has happened several times with different discs.

GSpot tells me that the avi files on the disc are "Not a valid AVI file", except the one that DOES play in the DVD player which is a valid avi file (which makes sense). The working file is file 2 of 9.

Also, i tried the simple dragging and dropping from the DVD-R disc to the PC and that didn't work either. Gspot also said this is "Not a valid AVI file"

Im happy either copying the disc, or puting the files back onto the pc to then burn to a disc.

More info you may need, I'm using Windows XP, my original dvd copy is on a DVD-R TY disc, the backups are on a DVD-R LG disc. My burns seldom fail on either of these discs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hope I have put enough info here about my issue and that it makes sense.

    Thanks!

Try imageburn, that's if you must make an image first before you burn the disk.Easy way would to have made a data disk in Nero and just ad the files.Might be something to do with Nero when you made an image of the disk and since it had 9 different avi files on the disk ballsed it up?

Well I don't need to make an image, thats just what nero does when i copy the disc. I'd actually prefer not to do it that way it possible. When I made the disc originally, I just added the files from the PC into the list and then burnt it, however now the files are only on the disc. Oh, maybe I can put my disc in and navigate to it and add the files as if they were on the pc and make a data dvd that way? hmm... OK, doing that creates the AVI's in a temp folder which work perfectly! Seems like i've found a workaround,

However I'd still be interested to find out why my other methods don't work.

    Thanks for your reply killallot!
