Can anyone recommend a good freeware program which can compress (shrink) mpeg 2 files? I'm trying to squeeze a 4.8 gig file onto a DVD.

Thanks.

ReJig can compress mpeg2 files
In essence, you demux the audio as a separate file then recompress the video to the preferred size (recall that when you put the new video and the demuxed audio back together that the total size will equal the sum of the parts).

Put the new video and the audio back together with ImagoMPEG-Muxer.
