i've upgraded 2 toshibas, 2 lenovas, 1 hp, 1 sony viao( mine)& 1 acer laptop plus 1 acer tower from vista to xp. i changed the sata in the bios to ide so don't need sata driver at the f6 prompt when loading xp. find & download all your xp drivers either to external hd, cd/dvd or usb flashdrive. after doing the f8 to accept the ms agreement, delete all the partitions on the hard drive, make a new partition then format it. i usually do quick format on a new hd or a drive i know is good. finish installing xp then load all your drivers.

Make sure you have a good image backup before you start (just in case you run into problems). With a backup you can at least go back to a working computer. There are free image backup software (macrium reflect/paragon drive backup express).

If you an old xp install disc (xp sp1), you might want to slipstream it to update it to the latest version.

Don't forget to download all your XP drivers before starting.
