Hi, I have read recent advice on how to finalise a mini dvd-r disk. I have several of these disks that I wish to copy on my computer but they have not been finalised. I believe the programme cd roller will extract the VOB files but this programme costs AU$80. Does anyone know of any freeware or shareware available to do the same job? Thanks in advance Johno
I have recovered files from regular DVD-R disks that were recorded on a standalone DVD recorder and were not finalized in the machine. I don't know if mini-disks are amenable to this procedure. Download the free version of ISOBuster. Insert the disk in the drive and run ISOBuster. Choose the track that might be video and right click. Elect to extract it and opt for user data. The result is an iso file. Note in my pic, there were two short recordings made. Both are MB, while the other files are KB (track three and six are the actual video files). The resultant .iso file can be opened in VirtualDub (if you want to output AVI files) or AviDemux if you want to save them as .mpg. Good luck.
I have a short stack of un-finalized DVD-r's from my old DVD recorder and tried out CD Roller to see if I could get those shows off of them. I put in the shortest one (a single 1-hour show) and, after an hour and a half, Roller was about 8% into just analyzing it - so I just gave up. It's nice to see that there may be another option and this is the first place I've ever seen it mentioned. Thanks, Attar.
I grabbed the free version and tried a couple of those discs out. It came up with the disc structure and I can figure my way around in it. I have to make some room on my hard drive before I can actually try to copy anything, though. But... so far, so good. EDIT: @ Attar - I've managed to get useful video off of 2 different discs with this app.. The smallest disc, that was just a single show, took only a matter of minutes to get me a *.VOB on my desktop. Compared to the hours (days?) CDroller wanted to take to do the same disc, that's pretty good, in my book. At first, it didn't want to play correctly, so I dropped it into a VIDEO_TS folder and ran IFOedit on it, then put it through VOB2MPG and I now have a watchable copy of a Science Channel documentary on crabs. I always thought that ISObuster was the same thing as PowerISO, which can't do this. Thanks for pointing it out.
