    Hi folks, new user here.

I'm going to college in August and will be getting a laptop by the end of the month. I am computer savvy and know (based on the direction provided by the big MS) that I would be able to upgrade Vista to 7.

My computer should be able to run it (Toshiba Satellite, 2.66 ghz processor, 4gb RAM, good graphics card).

I'm just wondering if, because 7 still obviously has some bugs in it and this will be my only computer at school (obviously), would it be too risky to try to run the RC? I'd really like to because it looks great and the features look pretty cool, too.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Don't know about risky; seem's to be running great since it was in beta but the permanent shutdown next June coupled with its forced restart's every couple of hour's a few month's before that to remind you of its impending demise tend to turn me off the RC. You don't want to be in the middle of something and have your computer restart. I seem to be in the minority but it does start and shutdown slower than XP or Vista here and I can't be the only one, plus I think it's being released to the general public in October. I would let 7 work its kink's out first and I think I'd stay with Vista for now or maybe wait a few month's to buy a laptop with 7 on it.

OK Thanks a lot for your advice

BUT let me throw this into the mix:

I will, without a doubt, be getting my computer before October so I won't be able to buy one with 7 already installed

Also, I will buy the new 7 when it is released, so the automatic shutoffs doesn't really apply to me.

    Change things at all?

Not really, Vista is an established OS (not nearly as bad as people think and much the same as 7, IMO). I'd run Vista for now and upgrade to Window's 7 after it's been out a while.

OK, thanks a ton for your help. It certainly doesn't go unappreciated.
