-what does this mean? -is there anything i can do to fix this or should i backup everything on this hard drive just in case?. thx
Looks like you have bad sectors. This can sometimes be fixed with a low-level format. Note: Low-level format will wipe the drive clean...nothing on it. Make sure to backup first.
i formatted the hard drive about 3 weeks ago and i have two partitions: one with xp installed and another i use for my files
Back up whatever you need to DVDs or another hard drive...then use the the tools at http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?modelno=wd800jb-00cra1 to scan the drive (the DOS tools work best, and will also alow you to do the next step if you need to). If it fails the new test (do the most complete test it lets you), then you can use the utility to low-level format the drive. Then, do a scan again and hopefully it will work. If it fails the test yet again, get a new hard drive.
