If the source files fit onto a dual layer DVD, and the options is to burn it to a DVD9 Dual Layer disc, my question is does DVD Shrink still compress the files in any way, as I wouldn't have thought it needed to compress any files as the target DVD will be large enough to take all the files as they are.

Also am I right in thinking that when the analysis is under way is it checking the size, and if the preference is to burn it to a dual layer disc then the total size is under the 8.5GB then it won't need to compress any files.

Quote from Doom 9 helpful guide....
DVD Shrink automatically selects a compression ratio to make your movie fit onto the allocated space (the output size you set up in the preferences).

Does this mean if the preference has been set to DVD 9 then DVD Shrink won't need to perform a compression ratio?

Ah, I've just seen the option for no compression, so I believe that if it's under the capacity for DVD9 and that is indeed the preference, then no compression would be the best method.

You are correct.

And am I right in thinking the back up quality settings for deep analysis and compress video with high quality are only available to choose only if burn preference is smaller than the file to be copied?

Cheers mate, I am just trying to understand the DVD Shrink program as I don't use it often, if I want to use Nero I have found that using Nero recode works with no error message, where as Nerovision Express gives me the Kernel32.DLL page fault error after I have added the video files.

@labtech

You do realize that Recode was written by the same person who wrote Shrink. I use recode over shrink all the time now. AnyDVD and Recode is a sweet combo as is AnyDVD and Clonedvd.

Would you know why I am receiving errors when I use Nero copy DVD files option?

NEROVISION caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff9db61.

I have no idea, I don't use nerovision. HOWEVER by just highlighting your error title I found this.
