Is this the correct forum for asking about playing AVI on a DVD Player (connected to TV) that supports .AVI video files?

I am downloading .avi files thru Rapidshare and copying them to a DVD+RW disc. Most of these files play on my Toshiba SD7200KU/SKK99KU DVD (which I recently bought for $59). However, some do not play... the DVD player will skip to the next file. My DVD player connects to a Sony TV thru HDMI cable.

I am looking for a way to test/fix/convert these .avi files so they will play. I am not sure how to begin troubleshooting this.

My DVD Player manual says a few things about video file support:
    ---Divx Versions: 3.11, 4.12, 5.0, 5.1
    ---Frame Rate: 8-25fps
---Enhance Video: GMC, Qpel, Progressive B Frames

Is there an guide or procedure I can follow to troubleshoot this and get the 'problem' files to play? Thanks

Yes - all the files Play on my PC - so they are not corrupt in that sense.
