I have a 500 GB WD Elements external hard drive. It sometimes won't be recognized by my desktop and now it won't even power on when plugged in. Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks in advance to any & all advice.

    Hey!

Have you tried connecting it to another USB port or another computer altogether?

Don't know this drive so this may not apply: Anyway you can take the drive out and connect it directly to a desktop or use another external hdd casing?

    hope this helps!

I tried using the other ports but I didn't try taking it out of the case or connecting to another computer. If it does work on another computer, would I have to replace the casing still? I was wondering whether I needed a new power cable or something.
