It's not for HD video encoding. She'll be running Vista until Windows 7 comes out. But she does want quality components and not bottom of the line. With a case, monitor and 550W power supply, the total cost is about $750. That is in her range. I'd like to know if the parts I picked are compatible. Any thoughts on the specific brands? Thanks!
everything looks fine. the video card is lower end but if you arent going to be gaming then you dont need anything any better than that. if you can stretch the budget a bit you could look into a q9550 or something along those lines, its a lot nicer quad. not to mention on that board it will easily do 4ghz.
Yeah I agree on the better quad core, a q9400 would be around your price range. Everything else looks good. if your not gonna be using any graphics at all (video encoding, gaming, hd movies) then you really dont even need a graphics card that..."OK" at all. I've never had a problem with them. Mine have always been quiet enough and I've had 2. As for the case, I'm a Coolermaster fanboy as long as the price is reasonable. I have a Coolermaster full tower that was normally way out of my price range, but I happened to get one of those great newegg deals - came out to $100 (after $150 taken off). I've had the best experience with CM's. I like the look and quality. When I've gone cheap on a case, I usually get what I pay for - along with sliced fingers and broken parts along the way. And I hate not having enough space. This one I chose is relatively cheap for a CM.

Coolermaster PSUs are OK-ish, but not up to the build quality standard of other units. Since you're effectively getting one for $20 you can't argue though I suppose.
