i have no clue how or why it got this way, but when i plugged in my ipod touch for the first time, it showed up as a camera, it wont show anything but pictures when i try to view files on it, and any other compiter i try shows the same thing, ive tried resetting it, reinstalling it, formatting it, and nothing works, how do i change what my computer thinks it is?

It shows up as a camera because that's what it tells your computer it is - Apple make it this way specifically so you can't alter folders yourself and you have to use iTunes - so go and install that and use that to put music / photos / video / games / apps on it.

All Apple let you do without iTunes is view photos stored on the device and screenshots you've taken of the device (hold power and home at the same time to take a screenshot), hence being labled as a camera by Windows.

If you want to access the whole file structure then you'll need an SSH client, and even after that, unless you understand computers fairly well, the file structure will be very confusing. If you want your iPod to be able to read files you add to it through SSH you'll also need to Jailbreak the device (very easy to do).

Post back whether you want to do it or not and I'll give you more detailed instructions about it all if the answer's yes.

It's legal, but of course Apple don't like it - They say it voids the warranty of the device, but what people do if they have a problem is just use iTunes to reinstall the original firmware and then Apple can't tell :)

Ipod is one of the famous portable media players. Although it is very small in size yet you can store many things in it. You can store many songs, videos, pictures in it. But you can save all these only when it supports that file format which you are playing. Otherwise you can use SPAM converter software which easily converts the files into ipod playable format.

Ipod has become very essential for our daily life. You can save many things in it. But the actual problem is only of data loss. So before any loss of data make backup of the save files. So that you can easily get them back. You can do this with the help of SPAM recovery software.

It won't allow you to buy anything unless you've already entered credit / debit card information (so you can't purchase anything with a 'free' account).
