usb drive wants to format

heya my friend went to plug in his 8GB cruzer memory stick and a window popped up and asked him to reformat it, even though there is data on his memory stick. So i decided to run a couple of recovery programs like Getdataback for FAT, partition doctor and test disk and nothing is appearing at all. i then go to disk management to find out that the stick no longer has a file system.

is there anyway of resstoring the file system so that the data would be back on the memory stick?

if not is there anyway of getting the data off of the memory stick?
