Hello, I just recently built my own pc. Here is the setup: Gigabyte ep45-ud3r mobo ATI 4870 512mb 4gb g-Skill ram 250gb HD. Antec Earthwatts 500wtt Now whenever i install this pci Sata card I have here it's a Roswill via 6421 Sata+Raid controller. My computer goes passed POST and just restarts over and over again. When I take the card out it's normal and boots fine. Why is this happening??? Is there something I should said in my BIOS?? I have heard that if you already have onboard SATA it could interfere with your SATA card. Is this True?? Please HELP! Thanks
Yes, it is very possible for On-Board Sata and Sata Cards to interfere with each other. The only remody that I know of right off the top of my head is to install the card and then Re-Install your OS using the SATA Drivers option (the Windows XP install, for example will prompt you as it's loading up to press a button if you want to load any non-default SATA drivers). If you don't already have a SATA Driver disk to go alongside your card, you may want to download that information and burn it to a CD prior to re-installing your OS. Additionally, any SATA harddrives you have should have come with SATA driver disks, which you may want to have handy as well. Considering you just built the computer, I don't image you have much data to loose by re-installing your OS.
Even if PCI S-ATA cards can interfere with onboard (which I've never heard and bear in mind I use three of them in one of my PCs in conjunction with all the ports on the motherboard at the same time), that wouldn't stop your PC from POSTing. Try a different PCI slot to see if it's a bad slot, but if not, it's a faulty card. It wouldn't surprise me if it was. Rosewill stuff is cheap tat.
If he's getting a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) it has to be coming from Windows, and NOT the BIOS -- therefore, his computer is POSTing correctly.
Ah yes I see that now, I saw POST and 'restarting over and over' and didn't bother to read the whole message. Did you actually install the drivers in windows or did it start doing this as soon as you plugged it in?
