How to remove serrated edges on video ?

Hi, I'm a newbie (you can tell !!) I converted MPEG video files from my Toshiba Gigashot (Hard disc) to DVD PAL format. Then used several software to write to DVD including Nero, DVD Shrink & Ulead, but the edges of my pictures come up as serrated or showing digital lines not analog.
Can anyone please suggest where I'm going wrong ?

    Rgds

Can you post a snapshot showing the effect.

Actually the Video on my PC runs ok but when I play on my DVD player & TV, the edges of objects have serrated edges as opposed to clean straight edges. Any snapshot will be from the PC and will not show the effect. Pls advise any setting changes needed.

Open the mpeg files in virtualdub (with the mpeg-2 plugin installed)
    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/index.html

and step the through the video a frame at a time.
If you see one that illustrates the problem,
do a print screen and post it here.

In general, it sounds like interlaced footage,
somewhere along the line, wasn't handled properly.
