I been using various torrents site such as isohun and btjunkie for a few weeks now and recently got a copyright infringement email from my isp and the ESA. My question is whether these various anonymous proxy services would work to disguise my online functiosn to my ISP and are the worth the monthly fee's of 6-20 dollars per month
The proxies are not made for BitTorrent and while they may work they will probably be as fast as a dial-up connection. There are ways of protecting yourself when using BitTorrent and plenty of guides explaining how to do this. Do yourself a favor and look around AD and google this a bit.
Hi theprodigy (at least I hope those are the right vowels to be filled in ) Proxies aren't necessarily paid-for services. You can connect to free proxy servers which will in turn connect to various torrent sites. One example of free proxy servers is: http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html Yes, they most probably will work if your ISP uses IP-address tracking to determine that you are indeed using BitTorrent. However, if they examine the packets exchanged between your computer and torrent sites, then that might render it hard to avoid detection. However, as peainapod said, there are plenty of guides explaining how to protect yourself when using BitTorrent. Search around! Even though proxies may slow your download speed down, there's also the possibility, especially if you live in a country like China, that it might speed it up! Best Regards
Proxies aren't totally safe. Whoever is running the "exit proxy" can easy examine what you are doing, so although you are avoiding 1 person if hte person on the exiting end of the proxy has malicious intentions they can easy see what your doing.
Great point, pea. That's why paid proxies are definitely much better than free proxies; they more or less guarantee privacy, whereas a free proxy would allow people controlling the proxy to see what you're doing and what passwords you type in it. However, bittorrent doesn't exactly give out private data, which is why free proxies would be good for simply downloading videos/music. Best Regards
This is a good proxy service, http://ipredator.se/beta/closed/, that once opened will be roughly $8-10 a month and will be run by the folks at The Pirate Bay. Its in closed beta and has been for sometime, but I would imagine once it opens to imagine it would be the best service out there for anonymous bittorrent.
