I recently put together a new comp for my brother, and when we were ready to fire it up, i connected a monitor (an old viewsonic lcd 17 inch) and it didnt seem to recognize the monitor (the light never went green, only stayed orange).

the graphics card is a sapphire PCI-E HD 4870 1GB, and the motherboard has no onboard video. (Biostar)

Ive never worked with a video card that beefy before, and the card has to monitor connections on the back, I tried them both.

I am wondering if the monitor is just not capable of running on the pC?...because when i hook it up to my computer, it says "Out of Range), but when connected to the PC i just built, it says "no signal"....

any thoughts?...if you need more info than what I gave, I can provide it...thanks

Ok, i got the monitor working, it was a stupid missed connection on the mobo, but now after i got windows installed, and i go to set the resolution for the monitor (23in LG LCD W2361VG)...
the screen went black and i get the "DSUB out of range" message, and i cant get past it. i cant even boot safe mode, so how am i supposed to get back into windows to lower the res?...

    any thoughts?

turn the monitor power off then back on. try another monitor to see if it is the 1st monitor is causing the problem or the pc is.

right click on the desktop but not on the icons, left click on properties, click on settings near top right & you'll see screen resolution near bottom left, move that slide bar left till reads say 1024x768. hit apply then ok.
