Hey, im just wondering - what is the easiest and safest way to unlock and jailbreak an iPhone 3G running on 3.0 firmware for FREE? I am trying to buy an iPhone 3G 16GB off ebay and im not sure if i should be avoiding phones with 3.0 or not? Thanks in advance, Rod.
right now there is no unlocking, but you can jailbreak your iphone for free. http://www.stateofthesceneaddress.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_Jailbreak_the_iPhone that's a guide on how to do it. I followed it and got it done in about 15 minutes. real simple.
I read today about how i believe you can unlock an iPhone 3G with a program called redsn0w. I know that you can unlock the 2G because I just got done doing my own. So google redsn0w because I believe I read that you could unlock the 3G, just not the 3GS yet.
I just upgraded my iphone 3g from 2.2.1 to 3.0 through itunes 8.2 and now im wondering if the link you gave there will work for me as well? oh, and is there any downside to jailbreaking the iphone version 3.o like bugs, glitches or certain features not working etc?
no, you get all the features, plus the added functionality of a jailbroken phone. And yes, the guide will work for you as well. Additionally, there is now a way to unlock the iphone. There is an article on the same wiki with a tutorial about it.
how do i get free custom ringtones? i did it a long time ago but now that i updated my 3g to 3.0 they all went away. please help.
i upgraded to 3.0 about a week ago, I have a 2g 4gb iphone with 3.0 and jailbroke and unlocked using redsn0w so in conslusion: for 2g iphones, use redsno0w to jailbreak and unlock for 3g iphones, use redsn0w to jailbreak, and use ultrasn0w to unlock currently, there is no jailbreak for the iphone 3gS
