I'm downloading Windows 7 64 from Microsoft to upgrade my XP 64. I don't usually upgrade (I format), but I don't want to lose my files and programs this time. I just have a few questions-

1)Will I run into issues with sata drivers? I don't have a floppy drive. Do I need to slipstream the drivers into the image before I upgrade? vista drivers work?

2)I assume I'll need to update all my drivers to vista versions...?

    3)What will I lose?

4)What do you think of Win 7?

    1) SATA Drivers are built-in, if you plan to RAID your drives though you'll have to load some files. Vista drivers do NOT work, its a new OS so it needs new drivers. Same reason Win 98 drivers dont work in Win XP

2)Windows 7 has built in support for a lot of hardware so maybe you'll need them maybe not. (I'd get them though)

    3)Its a clean install you'll lose everything

4)Windows 7 is sweet but Beta, plus it has the most ridiculous beta deactivation thing.

Heres a recent post from Tech Site Ars-Technica detailing what is about to happen to all Windows 7 beta users.

    http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...-beta-bi-hourly-shutdowns-start-next-week.ars

If you don't want to read it it basically says this:
*June 1st is essentially the end of the beta period
*Every 2 hours whether your work is open or not Windows will say something like "This is a beta OS please install a full Windows OS for continuted use. This PC will shutdown in XX:XX minutes.
*The PC will then shut itself down every 2 hours from the time it was turned on.

I forgot to mention, if you get the/install the Windows 7 RC and NOT the Windows 7 beta the timer will be extended until next June.
