So one day although I have a good wireless modem which is producing a good connection on one computer, I suddenly get a IE cannot display the webpage error. I have tried diagnosing all kinds of connection problems. I have disabled firewall settings on the system, which is windows xp pro service pack 3, as well as disabled them in the modem. I have uninstalled all spyware and malware, unistalled IE 8 and reinstalled. i have also tried running in safe mode to no avail. As far as a system restore, I have attempted that as well but there is no restore point available. DNS and IP addresses are matching throughout the system and modem. The wireless connection is connected and I have great signal strength, the wireless adapter is Realtek and has been working fine until now. When I run a diagnostics check it says that it is unablle to connect to the HTTP server. I have tried all that i know to do and it is still not working. I have also installed firefox and had the smae problem. I've had to download these programs to my flashdrive from my laptop and then onto my desktop. The desk top in mention is using the same wireless connection as the laptop I have, but this problem is onli on the desk top
try connecting via ethernet cable to see if still have problem. uninstall the wireless card in device manager & restart windows so can find new hardware & load it's driver.
what ddp said might work but i think what you have is a problem with windows update believe it or not, sometimes theres an update for internet drivers (wired or wireless doesnt matter) and it actually corrupts your device, when ever this happens to me i end up reinstalling the os ( a bit much i know but theres just no way around it), i've tried checking all cables, settings, wireless signal, reinstalling original drivers and still nothing, all i recommend is not to reinstall the os if someone gives you a better answer, if you still cant fix it, re-installation is your best bet
One thing I didn't mention that may has something to do w/ it is that my copy of windows has not passed validation. Is saying that the key I have on file is either lost or stolen. Not sure how that happened but I have since gone out and purchased another copy.I am in the process of trying to change the product key w\o reinstalling windows' (not an easy task). I may consider reinstalling.since I started this thread I have found a lead. After viewing my task manager I have discovered an unidentified presence called (wsaecmt). After looking it up I found information on this as being a Trojan! I am currently trying to find a way to remove it but have to work today. Any help removing this pest would be appreciated.
the only thing I have right now is SUPERAntiSpyware. And this I just got a few days ago. I had Norton 360 but decided not to renew the subscription.
ccleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/be21267d263119ceac00e9ac7e7ff0d4/ avg free edition http://free.avg.com/223204 or http://free.avg.com/download-file-ins-afe spybot search & destroy http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
an anti-spyware/virus might resolve the problem but unless you have been experiencing slowdowns it probably isnt a virus/spyware
I had a similar problem with my laptop tried everything that you did sprnt many days trouble shooting finally through process of elimination it was that wireless card was bad. I used a USB wireless card and everything was back to normal.
