HP Pavilion DV6000?

#1 28 Jun 2009 @ 2:45
Hey everyone I have a question if this isnt the correct place to post im sorry in advance. My friend has a HP Pavilion DV6000 notebook with an intel dual core cpu. He wants to upgrade the Hard drive in his notebook but I cant seem to find out if he could put a faster hard drive in it. It has a 5400 rpm HD in it right now. He would like to put a 7200rpm hard drive in it but I dont know if it is capable of doing so?? Anyone with info about this would be greatly appriecated thank you in advance.

Call HP. I don;t know of any reason why that shouldn't be fine.
#3 28 Jun 2009 @ 13:43
he should be able to use a 7200 rpm drive but as it appears to be ide & not sata1 or 3 then might not see speed improvement.
#4 28 Jun 2009 @ 13:53
Oh ok yeah he wanted to see a speed improvement thats why he was going to make the jump to 7200rpm. So with it being an IDE hard drive he wont see much improvment jumping to a 7200 huh? I couldnt seem to find much about anything on his specific model thats one reason why I posted here.

what did you figure out so that others can learn?

well my friend basically now just wants to put in a bigger hard drive with 7200 rpm if it makes it faster thats cool if not its cool aswell. He does a lot of movie editing so he needs more hard drive space. Im also upgrading his ram for him

might want to look at getting an external hd that can be connected to different computers whenever he wants to.

I have a dv6000t and yes you can put a 7200rpm HDD in it and mine is sata I, not ide.

Yeah he was looking into external for that reason that he could transfer his things onto different computers. If he could put a 7200rpm hd into it though with sata wouldnt that make it alot faster then it is now??

It should boot up and transfer files faster, the downsides are slightly noisier and more power consumption. OK unless your mate runs off battery a lot.

confirm 1st whether the interal hd is ide or sata.

im not sure on that right at the moment DDP my friend isnt home right now so I have no clue what it is. The odd thing about is on his notebook it says HP pavilion DV6000 but yeah if you pull up on the system info on his laptop it shows a different number like dv 65000

you are missing something either letters or numbers, recheck again as pavilion 6500 does not exist.

nate2005,

Under your mates laptop it should have a p/n No, if you enter the No in the this URL in product name/number, it should then inform you of the exact model you are looking for (put No in up to the hash sign i think).

ok this is the pn # gs805ua#aba it looks like ir has a 120gb hard drive 5400 rpm sata. so will a 7200rpm sata work? if so which sata do I get?
