I need help finding compatible hardware to make a fairly decent home audio recording system ive been using my laptop mic and adobe audition and my music is evolving past this basic audio editing software

i havent purchased any hard ware but can you help me find some items that are compatible im going to be traveling alot so most of it needs to be portable i can buy seperate components because my home audio set up needs to be better

I will be purchasing a new laptop to go along with this
i was thinking an custom order alienware laptop might be good for this

but if there is a different type of computer with a better set up then that please tell me.

thanks.

Alienware might be overkill if you are not planning on playing any games. There are lots of great freeware/open source audio editors around, and most should run just fine on a used cheap-o laptop. Your main concerns should be with audio input/output...most laptops are rather lacking in this area. A good USB audio device can make up for this, and even allow more inputs and outputs to connect to equipment.

Current System: Windows 7 RC1, DFI M2RS, ATI 3870HD, Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600, Athlon 9950, 6GB Corsair DDR2, 3TB RAID 5, 750GB Raid-1, 500GB RAID-1, 640GB RAID-0 Boot, 3ware 9690SA, Adaptec 2610SA, Adaptec 1430SA, Intel Gigabit NIC (PCI), LG 20X Lightscribe DVDR, Coolmax 1200w Power Supply, Logitech G15(first edition), Logitech G5(Second Edition), modified dell poweredge 1800 server case.
Overall configuration: Perfect chair, two 22" widescreens overhead, Logitech 5.1 Audio
