Errm ok.. well I have the hacked version of the PSP. so i have thousands of games already on my Comp, i just wanted to learn how to make a backup of my disk games..
4.) Copy the folder "PSP" inside the folder "MS_ROOT" to the ROOT Folder of your PSP MEMORY STICK. (E.G. X) - (X as in the drive letter of your PSP) - (Just allow it to overwrite, it will only add extra files and folders) ?????

Are you using the official 3.71 firmware from Sony???
(it will be official if you bought the PSP with 3.71fw on it or if you updated it yourself)
As I said in my guide, This only works on 1.50fw, homebrew- enabled PSPs or custom firmware PSPs.

Place your UMD in your PSP then press SELECT on your PSP then in the USB DEVICE option, select UMD Disc.
If pressing SELECT doesn't work, then enter Recovery then select XMB USB DEVICE then change it to UMD Disc.

Just pop your UMD in your PSP then just use the UMD Disc USB Mode, then you will see your ISO as a winrar kinda thing. Just save it onto your desktop... Now, just convert your ISO to CSO(optional) because the memory of the game will be compressed so I recommend you using it.

This mini-tut is for the people, like me, who have a hard time understanding sometimes :)
I have 3.71M33-3 and this is how I copied my UMD disk (it's probably the same with lower firmwares also, but I never knew how until today.)
1. Place your UMD in your PSP
2. press SELECT on your PSP
3. In the USB DEVICE option, select UMD Disc.
4. Put your UMD in your PSP
5. Set PSP to USB Mode and plug it into the USB cable
6. go to desktop
7. select PSP drive
8. Copy over the ISO like you would any file. (or compress it first if it's too big)
9. press SELECT on your PSP
10. In the USB DEVICE option, select mem stick.

Click here for the CiSO converter. It will convert your ISO to CSO.
And yes, you change your USB Device to Memory Stick.

You compress it AFTER you rip it (see here). Use the CiSO Converter:
1. select iso --> cso
2. open the iso you want to compress
3. enter where you want to save the cso
4. The higher you set the last entry the more compressed the cso will be, if you go too high the game might skip.
5. DONT select decompress cso :)

Well the XMB means the screen you are on when you turn on the psp.
go to the game tab. then go to the memory stick, provided you have one inserted.
and the USB special system storage is the program which you have on the memory stick..

XMB stands for XrossMediaBar, which is what you use to select between settings, photo, music, video, game, and network options. PeeEssPee explained the rest pretty well.

i personally keep everything in iso, if it is in cso i change it to iso. cso always skips and runs too slow. i have a 4 gig mem stick so i can always play the game i want, just not as many if i were to cso them... is there a batch iso->cso or cso->iso converter? everything i have found is one file at a time conversion method.
and thanks for the tip on how to rip the umd using the select menu in 3.71 cfw, now i dont even need usb sss.
NOT A NEWBIE TO THE SCENE, JUST TO AFTERDAWN... been around since the days of aol 3.0, fate x and havoc. good times.....
